Faculty, applied cryptography
Dr. Tobias Lindqvist
PhD in cryptography; previously a protocol auditor for institutional custodians.
- Key management, signature schemes, custody architecture
- 2 courses
- 1 research notes
Tobias teaches the cryptography units and the self-custody track. His audit work was mostly custody systems, so most of what he teaches is drawn from reviewing arrangements that were one mistake away from losing everything they held.
He is firm that self-custody is an operational discipline rather than a purchase. The security track spends more time on recovery planning and inheritance than on hardware, because that is where people actually lose funds.

- Reviewer for multi-signature and threshold-signing deployments
Writing for the Institute
- Seed phrases are a backup format, not a security model (Institute note, 2025)
- Threshold signatures for people who are not cryptographers (Institute note, 2024)
